It’s not you, it’s not even us, it’s GDPR…!

Posted in General News on May 4, 2018

From the 25th May 2018, due to the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), if you would like to receive news from Altitude Events of New Activities, Promotions, Booking Reminders etc. relevant to you, then you need to opt-in!

It’s a Europe wide thing which runs alongside the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). All businesses need to comply hence the string of emails you may be getting about updated Privacy Policies and re-opt-ins to newsletters/direct marketing. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but with everyone needing to comply, it’s fast becoming a nuisance. Therefore here at Altitude, we are also in the process of complying and sending out an email asking those on our database to re-opt-in to our quarterly newsletters if they want to continue to receive them. We are also in the process of updating our Privacy Policy and several other documents to be compliant.

To give you an insight, here is an extract from the mail-out:

Firstly, you are only receiving this email because you have either hired from us or enquired about hiring from us previously. This is the only way we have your details. We have never gained or passed on details to or from third parties. Trust us, we don’t want our details treated like that, so yours won’t be either.

Altitude Events have never, and will never, sell your details onto third parties. We all hate getting emails from legit and not-legit business advertising their products. If we wanted something from them we would’ve signed up to them ourselves. So we will never sell or pass your details to third parties who in turn contact you with their products. Furthermore, we never buy any personal data. All the data we have is gathered from those that have hired from us or enquired about hiring from us and to receive email marketing relevant to you, you need to opt-in.

The mail-out goes on to say:

We also don’t want to be bombarded with emails, who does?! That completely defeats the object as they will go straight to the recycle bin. We promise to only send emails once every quarter if that, a maximum of three or four a year per category.

To clarify, if you decide to opt-in then you choose the category of email marketing you want to receive. For example, you may choose ‘Parties’ or ‘School and Activity Days’ if those were relevant to you. You will only then get a maximum of four emails a year to your inbox, choose both, then as it is two categories, you may receive up to eight emails a year, four per category as explained during the opt-in process.

But never fear, you can go change the categories you’re signed up to on the signup page in future if you wish, or you can unsubscribe from our database completely via the subscription page or direct from the mail-out. It is all your choice.

Finally, it goes without saying that we would like to keep in touch with you but it is your choice. If you’d like to continue hearing from us please opt-in here and choose the options you would like to receive from us that are relevant to you and your events.

If you would prefer that we didn’t contact you and you have received a mail-out from us, you don’t need to take any action – from the 25th May 2018 onwards you won’t receive any such communication.
